THE ODYSSEY- HOMER

Today I talk a little about Odyssey, and epic poem written by the Greek author Homer. I have a good American English translation of this poem, by Herbert Palmer, sold by Barnes & Noble Classics. The date of this book and Homer’s biography still uncertain, because we don’t know much information especially when he lived and was born. This book is important for the Literature history around the world. Its talk about Odysseus death and Telemachus, twenty years and son of Odisseus, who planned to convince his mother Penelope that her husband was died. When Odysseus decided to fight in Trojan war, Telemachus was ten months old. Then, Telemachus demonstrating hospitality and interested in proving his certainty about his father’s death invite 180 suitors to live in his house. Athena disguised as Telemachus found a ship, where the real Telemachus and the crew were. Thus, Telemachus organizes an assembly of Ithaca’s citizens to tell them real news about his absent father. He believed that his father was died ten years early in Troy war. The real story of the book is about seven years Odysseus’ captive in Calypso. Athena wants to persuade Telemachus to released his father by the messenger god Hermes.
